With their new release, Faith in Our Love, Alisa Fineman and Kimball Hurd offer up a unique collaboration of songs that speak directly to what we strive for in our daily lives and what it means to care well for each other and the places we live. Monterey Bay-based and long-time favorites in the San Francisco Bay area, Alisa and Kimball have earned national acclaim for their songwriting and world music repertoire. Known for her ‘deep, emotional singing voice,’ Alisa’s background in sacred music adds a compelling world music component to this duo’s lush repertoire. She is perfectly complemented by multi-instrumentalist and singer songwriter Kimball Hurd, best known for his role in City Folk. Hurd, a Bammie (Bay Area Music Association) award winner, offers up songs from his own catalog of powerful originals. His instrumental prowess adds dimension to the duo’s performances with vocal harmonies and an array of tasteful musical accents on guitar, mandolin, mandola, dobro, banjo and slide guitar. Their appreciation for the ordinary miracles of everyday infuses their songs which sing to a sense of place, possibility and deeper meaning in all of us.
Just recognized as Champion of the Arts 2011 by the Arts Council of Monterey, Alisa was pursuing a solo career at the time while Kimball was touring extensively with the California-based trio City Folk. When their musical paths crossed, they recognized a shared kindred spirit – love of earth, family, friends, late nights around the kitchen table playing music, good food and wine. They began a musical collaboration that quickly took on a life of its own and before long found themselves much in demand at clubs and festivals throughout central California. Alisa’s close-to-the-earth sensibilities and Kimball’s instrumental virtuosity, sensitivity and easy wit gave voice to a musical style that appealed to an ever-increasing audience.
In the years since, their talents have earned them national acclaim and invitations to perform at such showcase events as the Kate Wolf Music Festival, Strawberry Music Festival, the Sisters Folk Festival, the, the Kerrville Folk Festival, Jacob’s Ladder Folk Festival in Israel,Rosie O’Donnell’s R-Family Cruise, the Connecticut Family Folk Festival, Autin’sSouth by Southwest, the High Sierra Music Festival and the Moab Folk Festival. Both are multiple-award winning songwriters – Best of the Bay (the Bammies), Kerrville NewFolk, New York’s Shalshelet Festival, Columbia River Folk Festival Songwriter Showcase and Napa Valley NewFolk – and have songs on numerous CD compilations across the country, including Fast Folk, Women of Kerrville, the Kate Wolf Memorial Folk Festival sampler and many more. Kimball’s versatility on guitar, mandolin, mandola, dobro and banjo adds exquisite musical textures to their gorgeous harmonies. The interplay of acoustic instruments and insightful
lyrics speak directly to the heart, and their unique repertoire of original, traditional and other favorite songs alsotaps into world music for universal messages from ancient Jewish wisdom traditions. “Alisa and Kimball sing towhat matters in our daily lives and what it means to care well for each other and the places we live.”- Santa Cruz Metro
