Emma’s Revolution

“Fervent and heartfelt”~The New York Times
Smart, funny and informative–like Rachel Maddow and Jon Stewart with guitars. Emma’s Revolution is the duo of award-winning activist musicians, Pat Humphries & Sandy O. Called “inspiring, gutsy and rockin'”, Emma’s Revolution’s songs have been sung for the Dalai Lama, praised by Pete Seeger and covered by Holly Near. The duo’s awards include Grand Prize in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest and, for the second year in a row, the Washington Area Music Association’s Fan Favorite Award.
In addition to Pat’s solo cds, Emma’s Revolution has released three cds and recorded two with Holly Near. Their songs have also been included in numerous compilations. The duo tours 200 days a year and, in the spirit of Emma Goldman’s famous attribution, “If I can’t dance, I don’t want to be part of your revolution,” Emma’s Revolution has brought their uprising of truth, hope and a dash of irreverence to thousands of concerts and activist events across the US and abroad.
Emma’s Revolution’s latest songs:
– “Sing People Sing”, written in tribute to their friend and mentor, Pete Seeger, features Pat on banjo and Gary Johnson on accordion. Pat was with the Seeger family and a small group of friends when Pete passed, singing him home to Toshi. The duo wrote “Sing People Sing” in the days following.
– “Love Reaches Out” was written for the theme of this year’s international gathering of the Unitarian Universalist General Assembly. Emma’s Revolution premiered the song at the gathering in Providence RI. The recording features DC-area musicians Henry Cross on bass and Brian Simms on piano.
Emma’s Revolution’s song, “Peace, Salaam, Shalom” has been chosen for the new hymnal of a worldwide denomination.
Out of the hymnal’s 600+ songs, Community of Christ has selected “Peace, Salaam, Shalom” to be taught to its 250,000 members worldwide and has created Peace Through All People”, a stunningly beautiful and moving video of congregants and friends from Australia to Zambia singing “Peace, Salaam, Shalom”, with verses in French, Spanish and English.
