The Willits Brass
The Willits Brass was formed in 2009 by four brass players who raised money for the Willits and Laytonville Christmas Toy Drives. Three of the four original players are still active in the band and have continued to raise money for charity.
The “Father Figure” of the band is Jim Church. Jim served in the United States Army for over 21 years and retired as a Sergeant First Class. Jim played trombone for several US Army bands, traveling the world representing the United States of America. Jim has played for Kings, Queens and Presidents and continues his trombone playing by volunteering for the Willits High School band as an assistant instructor. Jim has played for 8 bands worldwide.
Dan Church brings his talented baritone music to the band and has written several songs which have been performed throughout Mendocino County. Dan is a businessman in Willits and has led the band in our fundraising efforts for community projects.
Tom Allman has played the tuba for 30+ years and works throughout the county assisting with fund raising for non-profits. Tom is an administrator for a Public Safety agency in Mendocino County and strives to improve his own ability by listening to the wisdom of the great and talented musicians in Mendocino County.
Edwardo Brino has been with the Willits Brass for almost 2 years and has played the trumpet for 8 years. His ability to play other cultural music has a strong influence on his talent in the band. Edwardo works in a mill in Willits and has a strong desire to help other young musicians in their musical endeavor.
Sheryl Gard is a local business woman in Willits and has played the French Horn for 12 years. She brings sanity to the rest of the group with her talent, humor and musical understanding.
The Willits Brass has over 100 years of combined brass playing and we hope that you enjoy our mixture of polka and standard music today.
